Wow - this having been good reading/postings about the pole elastic and various bush. They have certainly come a long way in the last few years!
It might start me thinking taking up pole fishing again!

Realy interesting stuff Stu thanks for taking the time to post.As some one who never uses elastics over a size 6 Ive had little experience with the carp size elastics untill recently. These were not with the pole (only one I now own is a light 8m whipp elasticated with a size 6) but with method feeders and floating candles.I thought the Black Hydro Elastic fitted to the candle was much better than either of the grades (blue and white) fitted to the Korum method feeders I tried.
Now for the silly question when you cut Hydro is there any problem with the liquid comming out? as I would like to change my feeders over to it and this would only require short lengths.

Eddie & Budgie, No worries. I'm glad you find the info useful/interesting. I have also only recently made the switch over to match carping, although I refuse to let go of the river and canal fishing that is in my blood! ;D RE: CUTTING HYDRO Whenever you intend cutting hydro, you must first knot it each side of the cut to ensure the liquid does not escape. A simple overhand knot will do as you are only stopping the liquid. If you don't knot it the liquid will escape and you will, in essence, be left with a single core hollow elastic, albeit an expensive one! I also use black hydro for some of my method feeders as it is very hard wearing. All I do is make two overhand knots close together (1/4inch apart) about 4 to 5 inches from the end of the hydro; it comes with knots in the end. I then simply cut the hydro between the two knots I made. This gives me a short piece knotted at both ends and the remainder also knotted at both ends.
