I have been fishing far out alot lately either on the top or just under the surface. The problem is sinking my line after casting. the time i manage to sink it, the float is about half the distance i originally cast. I want to be able to cast tight to the far bank and not have to pull the float back to sink the line. Any suggestions? could it be solved with the right type of line? Thanks.

Some mono lines sink/floatbetter than others.Maxima is a good sinking line. All lines can be helped to sink by "de-greaseing" them,a bit of washing up liquid in water on the spool will help this.
The traditional way of sinking the line when waggler fishing ie overcasting then winding back with the tip sunk does work but as ou say no good if you wish to fish tight up to a feature. For this use a relatively new technique the comercial carp water matchmen use.Its called "cutting" After you have cast to the feature stick the rod tip as far under the water as you can and "strike" upwards, this will "cut" the line under the surface but not move the float.Give it a go it works well.
