I always treat all fish the best i can, unhook them safely and return then as quick as possible. But i dont have a unhooking mat for the carp. I never remove the hook on hard surfaces i always take them to grassie area's. or on my net bag. I only catch carp to 15lb, should i really be using a unhooking mat.

Powermesh for the safe removal of hooks - safe that is for the carp, which can all too easily flap up and down on gravel banking and scrape itself raw.
Unhooking mat have been designed for all sort of bank areas especially stoney banks which never grass over, these foam fill unhooking mat are an absolute for ensuring that the fish goes back in to the water in the condition it came out.
At a pinch, an old square of carpet underlay or a piece of 1/2" inch thick dense foam will suffice. BUT REMEMBER, HOWEVER, TO DAMPEN whatever you use so the body mucus is not disturbed.
