This is the story that I vowel to not to tell anyone but after much persuading from Budgie it is finally told on here
The Giant Rat Story
It all started on September 4th 2004 when me, budgie and Ken Fuller were going to France to a place called Pont-de-Vaux on the River Soane to do a bit of Carping and Catfishing.
Well after setting late to catch the 1 am Dover to Calais ferry.
Once on board the ferry it was Budgie idea to get some early morning breakfast from the ferry restaurant (as always Budgie think about is food!) well the ferry journey was over an hour and a half which seem to go quick while eating and chatting on what we are going to do in France for the next 10 days.
Well things went smoothly until we hit the Paris ring road (more like the M25 but bigger! ) Because we have hit Paris in the rush hour we miss our turning and seem to be heading back in the direction of Le Havre as always Budgie turn around and was getting confused on the a village name which sound the same as there is one in the north and in the south!(Can't remember the name)
Anyway we have to head back into Paris - well that was a nightmare the Paris rush hour is more like an 3 hour rush hour going at snail pace speed! So A quick detour route into central Paris and to head back in the right direction on the A6 towards Dijon.
Once on the road towards Dijon and still on the A6 towards Macon. When we got nearer to Tournus we got of onto the N6 to Macon by the time we got to the campsite called Camp Les Peupliers which is on partly River Soane. By then I have been awake for nearly 26 hours!
Once arrived at the campsite we pitch our bivvies - (well budgie couldn't bother to do his and wanted to sleep in my bivvy!) anyway we headed into Macon to get our fishing permits, bait and bits and pieces by that time I have been awake for nearly 33 hours and all i wanted to do was hit the bed, but no it was time to do a bit of fishing While Ken was fishing and I went looking around the place.
Budgie started to prepared the tea for the evening and I was told not to leave anything around the place because there was a group of rats and these were slightly bigger than our counterpart!
Well I wasn't seem to be alarmed by it as I have seen bigger rats when I used to work on the golf course as a green keeper where I have bigger rats they raid the grass seed for food! Anyway i hit the bed for a good night sleep - what sleep it was more of a nightmare about rats! anyway I woke up in the dark to see someone moving about in the bivvy which to me seem to be a giant rat with no tail - Well I nearly sh*t myself seeing the flipping size of it, so I panic and started kicking this great ball of fur coat and not realizing that i was kicking Budgie - Well what do you expect at 2am in the morning!
After that he was moving about to go somewhere secret in the night and by that time I wanted to go to the loo - off he went and seem to gone a long while and so I couldn't wait to go, so I have to go to the loo. So hurriedly run along the path trying not to do it in my pants and tried the wooden doors of the toilets.
Tried the first door - it was locked, tried the second door again it was locked and me thinking that everyone in France must go to the toilet at the same bleeding time! Tried the third door and it was open - Yes! quickly did my business and all of sudden someone was knocking on the wooden door! The giant rat coming to get me!? No it was Budgie standing there with the toilet roll!
So that the tale of the giant rat in France
Knowing Budgie he will tell a different version of the story
