Here is a way of stopping treble hooks in the upholstery in the car and stop getting hooks into your clothing ;D Here is a nice cheap and simple idea that me and Budgie have used for years to stop this happening. If your rods are like this for transporting then you are asking for trouble 1. Get some pipe lagging foam, cut it to 9" long. 2.Measure down 2 1/2" from the end and make a cut across. 3. Place the foam over the rod rings. 4. The finish product over the rod rings. This will protects all the upholstery in your car and clothing. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Here is another great tip from me. When you see anglers buying the pontoon net float which cost somewhere in the region of £5 - £15 depending what make is your net is. This product will stop the net from sinking when playing the fish. well here a lot cheaper version - pipe lagging foam as I have done here 1) Undue the moulded spreader net block and just thread the pipe lagging foam through the landing pole handle and put the spreader block back on. Just so simple ;D ;D

Here is another tip from me When you are piking alone and it come to unhooking the pike sometimes you wish you have an extra hand to hold the wire trace, well you can now You need the following items 1 x size 4 or 6 Barbless hook with the point cut off 1 x leather key rig 1 x thin garden coated wire The first thing you do is cut off the point of the barbless hook unless you want it to hooked into you. Then cut a piece of garden wire and tie it to the eye of the hook Then the other end of the hook you tie the leather key ring so it should end up like this When you are unhooking the pike, you should be in this position - see diagram 1 That your right hand is holding the forcep and the left hand is chin lifting the pike. There will be time when you wish a extra hand, this where this little gadget come in. Hook the swivel of the wire trace and put the leather key ring in your mouth this what is will be in diagram 2 There you are an extra hand for holding a wire trace

Fair does Andrew and a great post by the way but don't you think the fish endures enough stress without sticking extra hooks in its jaw? I think if the angler was show properly from the outset of fishing there would be no need for this procedure.
Clubs should be seen to be encouraging young anglers and doing it right from the start!

Andy you don't stick the hook in the fish mate! You put it in to the eye of the swivel! Its so you can pull/keep the trace tight without someone else to help you.I knocked this gadget up originally just to save your face (or nose if you've got a big konk like me!) being to close to those teeth! also makes it more comfortable.
Andrews diagram doesn't really show its use very well but I suppose it was the best drawing he could find.
