We as parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters should never forget the young ones during their summer vacation from school. I'm sure that most of us have fond memories of our first times and/or our summer vacations from school when our older siblings, parents or grandparents took a time out from their own pleasures and took us fishing. Do you remember how you felt? It was the thrill of a lifetime. You know yourself how huge the world was when you were always looking up. As kids and young adults, we never realized what patience those dear ones must have had to put up with a bunch of green horn munchkens! When I look back on those early days now, I come to admire and respect those people even more today. So, how about stepping up to the bat and fill those young eyes with excitement, those hearts full of happiness and those young minds with fond memories. Take a kid fishing today. They don't even have to be your own! Give back what was freely given to you. Don't do it because you feel you have to. Do it out of love!!!

yer mate i remember my first rod my dad got me. wow was i pleased. i had am old greenheart rod :'(this was a solid glass fiber 8ft brill . i lost it the first day i used it on the lodge pool .before the wall was built. a carp snock up and nicked it i was not looking . so i went back at that night to get it in my swimming trunks. i found it and it still had the carp on. :)i had a centrespool reel then and i had knoted the line to the spoll. playing the fish back to me in the water in swimming trunks without a landing net must had looked funny. anyway i got the rod back, got home and my dad tryed to show me how strong glass fiber is. or not SNAP :)end of new rod.

;D I hear you, Frank. I was adopted at 10 years old (lucky for a kid that age) and my 'new' father gave me a 6ft fiberglass rod with a Shakespeare ope face casting real. Needless to say, a boy who never fished before in his life (except with a rake net in a ditch catching minnows) grew up quick on his first day of fishing. After about 10 or 12 casts and unraveling line after each cast, I finally caught my first fish using a spinner bait. It was a small 1 1/2 pound largemouth black bass. After that tedious day for my father, it was decided that I would use a Zebco 33 close faced/push button reel. Then I could practice in the yard with the other before attempting to use it in the boat again.
