Well I will reply to your question Carpy! My season has been a bit quiet up till now.My local water like yours has retained the traditional closed season.Sadly due to several outbreaks of SVC on two local waters it was decided to keep the pond closed for a further month untill the 16th of July.Once open carp sacks and keepnets were banned as an additional precaution.
The club purchased 20 keepnets which are kept on site for club matchs (I thought this was a good idea and a great gesture from a now mainly carp orientated club) So the two series of evening matchs were able to take place albeit a bit shorter matchs than usual due to the later start and failling light. I attended all of these matches and chose to try a new method for me namely speed fishing with a short whipp for small fish of the surface. My plan being that even though I might not be able to get a heavy enough weight to win doing this I would be able to frame using this whichever peg I drew. Well to cut a long story short I really enjoyed developing my skill with this method and was pleased to manage 2nd place overall in both of the series (one is on points and the other on weight).
Big fish wise I have done absolutely nothing! Not even considered it.This is mainly due to the very heavy work commitment I have at the moment.
As you know had a couple of weeks on the Saone where I used to guide for Catfish. It was a general trip where I basicly wanted to visit a few friends and do a bit of pleasure fishing, never got round to doing much when I was actually working there. The river wasnt in the best of form and the gill netting and subsequent slaughter of hundreds of cats has changed the balance. All of the local venues we fished for Bream,Tench,Barbel were just stuffed with table size carp (2-5lb) a bit like fishing acommercial and certainly not what we had gone for. Didnt really try for the bigger Carp or the Cats but managed one carp at just under 19lb out of the small river at the back of where we were camping. Not really my thing though these days having been spoilt with big carp at our lake at Dijon.Would have liked to get Andy on there but its fully booked for the next 3 years (biggest 70lb+ and 12 different fish over 50lb) Andy fell in love with it when he saw it!
Got a day on the River Test Grayling and big roach fishing next month so looking forward to that. Will let you all know how I get on and will make the effort to take some photos to post.
Really looking forward to the now fast aproaching Winter for my true love - Piking. But will no doubt try to fit in a couple of days on the Severn for Barbel, work permitting.Had a day on the Avon at Harvington but against my brothers advice fished the wrong area and only caught roach!
All in all a very quiet season so far but as they say you aint gonna catch them if you dont go!

Well my season is not too bad at the moment had a couple spell on the local water (Lodge Pool) having a few carp and tench. I had a single fishing trip on my local private water for a fishing match which I came 13th out of 28th ;D I have been working a lot at work and at home mainly in DIY in the house and cleaning up the garden which I don't really enjoy doing it but someone got to look after it! Had a two weeks holiday in France with Budgie on the River Saone as Budgie mention in his prevoius post. Now I am really forward for the couple of day of Barbel fishing on the River Severn. But really looking forward to going out piking in the winter on what ever the weather will be doing. ;D

Time for a update. For me not been a bad season so farfor me, had some good days on the Lodge Pool with Eddiej. been trying out differant pegs each week and differant methods. I have stuck to the pole, and feel much more confident with it now with big carp. For me the winter is closing in and i will be watching angling on the box, nice and warm. might if Andrew wants to go Pike fishing again,i know David and Eddiej are up for it. the weather was against us last time. got loads of bait in the freezer Maybe Budgie will give it a go.
