Best Fish I ever caught was a 35lb Mirror Carp at Compton Verney. This was caught using floating bread, long before boilies made the impact they have today.
I was 17 yrs old at the time and thought I had hooked Jaws.

I have caught many treble figure fish from both fresh and salt water.Although I would be lying to say that big fish arnt fun the more I have fished the more I have started to think that the biggest fish I have caught arnt necsassarily the best. The circumstances of the capture make a big difference to me now. An old angling writer (whose name escapes me at the moment) said that there are four stages an angler goes through- 1. Wanting to catch any fish! 2. Wanting to catch the most fish. 3. Wanting to catch the biggest fish. 4. Wanting to catch the most difficult of fish. After nearly 40 years at this game I tend to agree. same caught many big fish. but one always stands out. catching carp every cast is great, But to fish a new water and catch a special fish, maybe a roach over 2lb or a crucian over 3 lb, is more exiciting.  trout
