We are presently at a campsite called Camp Les Peupliers which is on the River Saone outside Pont-de-Vaux. It is very hot here again today and have spent some time baiting several swims before fishing. My brother (who is known as Budgie by lots of fishermen) and Ken (who is a Norfolk angler who has come with us)have been fishing this afternoon in a part of an overflow which connects to the main river.
Today all I have caught is a 'pumpkin' fish and a 'poisson chat'- a tiny bullhead catfish.

Have been feeder fishing at Tournus on the River Saone. Only caught 1 small bream but my brother got quite a lot of small carp and bream.

Fishing still thin on the ground. Earlier in the day all I caught was a 'poisson chat' on a bunch of worms. This is the French nickname for an American brown head catfish. Unfortunately they only grow to about 6 inches long and dont weigh very much.
The weather has changed and we had a terrific thunder storm but before bedtime we were able to have another small session. At last I was able to hook a Weils (hope I have spelt that correct - A's Mum) catfish - not all that big but at least that is a start. Hoping for bigger things tomorrow.

Another thunderstorm but it did not last long. Budgie had a common carp at 4 am this morning. It weighed 18lb 12ozs. The bait used was single bird seed plum and pineapple flavour boilies. Still nothing much to report about any catches for me.

Went to Tournus today - got two carp and five bream in the morning. Rained all afternoon. Off to the weir pool tomorrow. (Comment from Mum - Andrew didn't say how big they were so I guess he still hasn't managed to get a big one)

Wednesday - Went to a place called Chalon which is about 41 kms from the campsite. Still not got a real big one.
Tomorrow (Thursday) will be my last full day for fishing. I am going for an all out attach on the Pont de Vaux weirpool - provided the weather is not too bad. The showers are only light now but it is very windy.

Early Thursday morning -
Did a bit of fishing on a small river (La Grosne) about 30 kms from campsite. Only 3 poisson chat and 1 pumpkin.
Back at Pont de Vaux and spent a couple of hours this evening at the weirpool. 8 bream (1 at 3lb) and 1 pumpkin fish.
Early to bed tonight as we will be spending tomorrow packing up all our gear and then start heading to Calais for coming home at the weekend.

Well sorry to disappoint any members on this website. The fishing was really hard. Since Budgie was last here two years ago when most of the big catfish were over 100+ lbs, there has been a large increase in the illlegal netting and most of the big catfish have gone but there are few about in the upper 40lbs. (Unfortunately none of us were lucky enough to get one) Well the journey was a long drive taken nearly 7 hours. After taking the wrong turning in Paris, we started to head back in the direction of Le Harve We did not realise our mistake until we had driven nearly 20 miles When we at last got to the campsite we did found most of the River Saone there was very weedy. As a rule most of the weed starts to break up at this time of the year. What I was not told was that night fishing on the River Saone is illegal but some local french anglers still continue to flout the laws on nightfishing. However it is legal on some private stillwaters in the area where we were staying. I did some nightfishing in a overflow which runs into the Saone. On September 12th after a very heavy thunderstorm, I was so tired went off to sleep. Hence with my hearing aids out and my glasses off. I did not hear the bite alarm going off at 4am and so my brother (Budgie) went to take the fish and woke me up at the same time. By the time I was fully awake to see what was going on all I could do was help him with netting the fish. However I could not really see what I was doing because it was still dark and I hadn't got my glasses on. ;D but managed to net it at the second attempt. It was a lovely 18lb 12ozs Common Carp. Just my luck - my rod and bait but my brother was the one to pull it out of the water. I have taken some pictures of this carp and it was nice to see something was coming out of the water but in my case I would say it was a 'fluke' and no other real big fish was caught in the overflow river which started from the weirpool at Pont-de-Vaux to the main river. I did managed to catch some small carp up to 2lbs on the river Saone at Tournus on the second visit there . To be continued
