Well it was a little damp last evening, I got my float in the water at about 6pm and packed up soon after 9.30 pm. Being my first trip I fished the nearest peg to the steps - peg 11 according to a senior gent. I thought my tackle was playing up and kept plumbing the depth but finally realised it was really shallow (somewhere around the 1 to 2 feet mark I think). I was heading out towards an isolated raft of weed but some kindly fella advised I stick some groundbait in the near weeds and saw the fish coming in close and all the fish I caught were within 20ft of the bank! Started off with two roach one 1/2lb and another about 1lb maybe - I am rubbish at guessing weights and can never be bothered to get out the scales. Then I lost a big fishg, presumably a carp, then this bream: followed by two more carp: and then I lost another just before I packed up. I was well pleased for less than 4 hours fishing on a new water. Sorry about the pic quality - it was my phone!

Not bad for a first timer! Especially on a new water.

Great start MrMatthews Their are some big carp in the pool, so always start of fishing heavy. You can always come down if the action is not to good. If you fish the pegs by the weed beds stay heavy. The pool is only 4 foot at the deepest. And the peg you fished is only about 1 and 1/2 foot deep. Nice way to start the season on a new pool.

Back this afternoon, 2pm till about 10pm, was having a crap afternoon, my expander pellets kept floating despite knackering my arms with the pellet pump! Noticed some big carp taking them off the surface - ended up catching 4 carp off the surfacen with bread lumps between 8 and 10pm... Nice ;D There was one larger than this but noone to take the pic! I like this pool!

When you get a bit of Pool knowlegde, which comes with fishing experiences on the pool, and the local's help. I bet you get a BIG fish before the end on the season. Keep use posted. Get your self a cheap digital camera, They have a picture delay timer so you can take the pictures yourself.

Cant make my mind up what to do on the 16th yet.Its a toss up between the River Rother for carp or my local club pond (it has kept the traditional closed season) for carp as well.Been baiting my favourite swim on the river but will make the final choice nearer the time depending on conditions. How did the pool fish on the 1st then?

Wow hello stranger welcome back Budgie. The first day was a disaster for me, but a good few fish started to show when i was packing up. The weather not good. Bet you cant wait till the 16th Conditions right get on the river, per baited. Just had a update on the first Wednesday open. 3 hour match. 1st Carl Bovington 60 pound plus 2nd Norman Bonner 50 pound plus To make it worse for Norman he spent a lot of time this week getting the peg Carl was on fish able. I am sure Norman will update the match result, but not a bad start.

Good to be back Frank, had some phone line and internet problems! Good to hear the pool fished well. Now they are doing day tickets again I will try and get up before the Teach In for a day with you guys.Dosh permitting!
Openning night saw me on the river as I thought the pond would be to crowded.Had one take just after 5 this morning which resulted in a common of 18lb 10ozs.An old warrior which I believe I caught a few seasons back from the same swim allthough it is hard to be 100% with commons.Back home by midday. Was going to give the same swim a try again tonight but thought best of it as Ive got my two brothers in law comming round tommorow to help finnish laying my lawn.

Went on the pool last weekend, Andy helped me out with method/feeder fishing.... I was on peg two. I managed to snap of a feeder right in the margins and there was almost a boil of fish over it, lots of tench and carp tails showing on the surface!... I went to the waggler and caught two nice carp and then onto bread off the surface. Caught a nice carp on the bread and another on one of my floating pellets ;D ;D I kept on with the pellets on the surface and two carp ed my 6lb hook link I then learned a painful lesson: I then went onto a hook straight through on 8lb line and the trout pellet on the controller but on my first take I managed to break my IM8 carbon match rod (I was too lazy to change over to a carp rod) Shame cos although I have spare (new better) waggler rod, its real seat won't take my centrepin. That will teach me!
