Used to fish there a lot 1974-76 when I was a teenager and lived in Redditch. Was a good fishery back then with a huge head of Perch, some big Roach nice Tench and the biggest Crucians I have ever caught (3lb 14ozs) .I had only started to scratch at the piking (best 18lb) and although having seen a couple of big fish that I now know to have been Carp never tried for them.I would be most interested to hear from any of you who have fished it recently or better still still do.

I used to fish there in 1990-95 when Hewell Grange became a Fishing club known as HGB Angling Club and the membership was only limited to a 150 anglers. Budgie, I have told you maybe a few times that the water have gone downhill where Hewell Grange did have some fantastic Perch, Roach, Tench and Pike and a few Carp. Budgie do you remember that 1lb Roach I caught by the Fallen Log Swim in one winter?. For some reason they took out most of the Tench, Perch and Pike somewhere between 1976-1990. Why I do not know. would love to find out why!! I fished really hard to tried to locate the Tench in the old days but none was caught and the Pike was the same. But there was a very large explosion of very small Perch in the last few years of my membership there. I did managed to catch a very large Bream over 7lb on a feeder on a very warm day in the autumn in 1995. The last thing I've heard that HGB did introduce around 500 Carp in the range of 3lb-5lb but there was alot of rumours going around that every single Carp died and even a rumour that all the Carp survived according from the vice chairman in a membership letter that I used to get while I was a member. Hewell Grange have changed alot from the heydays of 1974-76 where you could fish in a open area in the among the massive beds of bullrushes reeds swims. Now in every pegs there are proper scaffoling-wooden pegs, even in the reeds! There was a day ticket in process but it was only obtain by a member of the HGB and it that time it was around £2.50 but nowdays I am not sure if it still is.
