After buying a new pole i have desided it is about time i had some proper insurance for my gear. Has anyone got any recommendations for a good specialist fishing tackle insurer ?

Hi Bobby, I have my tackle insured for £8,000 away from the house, i have mine on the house insurance as seperate cover. This costs me £63.00 per year. Single item is £3.000. Before i took it out i asked them all the questions i that worryed me and i told them that i obviously did'nt have all the receipts so where would i stand. They told me to take photos and that should be enough. Hopefully i will never need to claim the full amount as i am never gonna take all my tackle out in one go but my biggest fear other than theft was fire in the garage, as i've been in one before. So it might be worth before you go to specialist insurers, try your own. You might be surprised it won't cost as much as you think.. Mine is with the Halifax. Good luck,.

When people first started insuring their tackle the insurance companies were getting turned over all the time! Many anglers would have their car/shed/garage "broke" into every season! Agreat way of updating their gear,so they thought. The companies soon twigged and the days of £20 a year tackle insurance has now gone.
When getting your gear insured you need to read the policy very carefully and ask a lot of questions. Some seem fine initially but when you look deeper only cover certain amounts of gear, dont cover it on the bank,in your car or what ever.I once nearly got done as I had to insure my tackle twice! The first policy was to cover all 20k of it when stored in the workshop the other up to 1k when in transit /use on the bank. They couldnt get it in to their heads that even though I needed 20k cover in case the workshop was burgled (it was alarmed like Fort Knox!) or burnt down it would never all be in the car or on the bank (obviously a much higher risk) at the same time!
I sadly know lots of guys who have had "great" insurance policies.....untill they have made a claim that is.
Presently I do the same as Sillybait.
