Do you guys use fluorocarbon... I must confess I almost exclusively use fluorocarbon for hooklengths, this was because when I started to use it my catch rate increased massively... however at the same time I was improving in all aspects of my fishing, so I was wondering how others felt about Fluorocarbon. I was the same with betaine, used it whenever possible, then I ran out and found my catch rate was no worse....

I have never used Fluorocarbon lines, but if it will improve my catches i will get buying some soon. Is it more expensive than normal monofilament lines.

Depends what line you normally use An example is Middy lo-viz, its called fluorocrystal, I assume its the same stuff... In Worcester where I end up bying a lot of tackle a 100m spool of the stuff, ub to b/s 8lb is 3.99, which as I use it for hooklengths suits me fine... I would say avoid Berkley Vanish as its not reliable although its cheaper coming in bigger spools... Berkley Vanish Transition is great stuff, got it on my closed face reel, but thats a bit more expensive

I use fluro carbon for my fly fishing leaders. Its stiffness here is an asset as it greatly helps turnover. Having tried it for a few years for course fishing I now rarely use it as I find the stifness is a problem here.

A problem in what respect? I keep hearing of stiff rigs but I assume that is much thicker lines for carp fishing!

Fluro carbons stifness (when compared to braid or mono) is great for fly leaders or carp "stiff links" but for general fishing with small baits eg maggots the stifness greatly afects the presentation making the hook bait behave in an unatural way.
What sort of fishing have you been using it for mate?

Well I have 6lb Vanish transition on my abu closed face, no problems with that so far... I had 8lb Vanish on a 3000 match reel which fished OK but frankly it wasnt up to the job to many unexplaind breaks on the main line when I was using a weaker hook link, so thats gone now! I use different breaking strains of Middy lo-viz on hook lengths for all my waggler and feeder fishing and it doesn't seem that much stiffer... I've been happy with that... I have some 12lb IQ for Carp rigs but I haven't used that yet. However you have been proved totally correct, I had a spool of Fox Illusion 15lb main line loaded it on to two spools for my baitrunners with the intention of carp fishing. It was so stiff that it was pilling off the spool in big loops unless it was under a lot of tension. I have sincere doubts that it will be at all practical on the bankside, probably lots of birdsnests... It wasn't cheap either!

Ive never used it as a main line, never been able to see what advantages it would give.As you say quite expensive to use for it as well.
