Used to fish here when I was a kid and am thinking of dropping by next week on a day off for a nostalgic return. Does anyone have any up to date information regarding best tactics and areas to concentrate ones efforts in?? Used to fish in the weir pool from the stone wall that separates the lock channel and get good chub with a cube of cheese on the biggest hook I could find. Happy days!
All help gratefully received.
All the best JP

It been years since the last time I went fishing there. Sorry couldn't really help you here but the best bet is to look in the Match Results in the Angling Times.
I don't know at the moment what the river level are like as it was flooded in some areas on the Avon last weekend

I will look forward to that report John. I might be having a day off soon to have a go on the Avon myself soon.

Beautiful day on Wednesday, sun shine and blue skies, unfortunately not matched by the condition of the river!
The Avon was still high and coloured, plenty of debris coming down the main channel and a lot of pace to it too.
Attempted to trot a float but gave up pretty quickly as 1. I could hardly see as I was facing the sun and the glare from the water was very strong! 2. the flow was too fast and there were too many snags.
Turned to a feeder rig with additional ballast to hold bottom in the flow and was quickly rewarded with a 3 ish pound chub which took my curried luncheon meat.
That was it for the day, not another bite or even a twitch. Luckily it wasn't too cold or wet otherwise I'd have been home for lunch!!

Hi Jay you fished the Avon at a bad time, like Andrew said, but if you came away with a 3 pound chub, nice one. The last time i fished the weir pool at Fladbury was 20 years ago, water condions great and i tryed every thing to catch a good fish, a large chunk of luncheon worked on that day too. I also got a tip from a bloke too put on a spinner, which i did. Casting into the weir and pulling back the free line. Bingo 3 small chub in the next hour. must go back, i think its B.A.A water now, will look into that.
