Carpy, coloured hooks have been around for a few years now, and I must admit that I haven't used them either and I don't think that I will either. To me a hook is a hook and at the end of the day whether if I have caught fish or not it down to the presentation of the hook bait that matters.

Frank,Ive used various coloured hooks for tying flies on but thats just because Im trying to represent an insects actual colour.Ive used gold with sweetcorn, never noticed any difference! but one that does is red! once you get fish really competing for food (normally small Rudd/bleak etc up in the water in the summer) you can fish a bare red hook and catch! honest give it a try.I started off just tipping the hook (just a normal one) with a bit of red rubber (couldnt get the rubber artificial baits then) when fishing matchs with a short whipp.Later went on to just a red hook.I always start with a maggot on but once its bite a chuck soon as it hits the water I dont bother baiting it.Not only is it quicker but you miss less bite! Got quite a few trophies from the Summer League matchs to prove it!
Ive never bothered with the red trebles you can get for pike though or those stupid bait flags! piece of old brown rubber band does me!

I have some Kogha hooks which are red.. marked as for sweetcorn!
I would love to get hooks that were black, or at least not shiny like kamasan Animal, my preferred hooks..

Mr M Im not sure if it would work with the Animal hooks (I believe they are nickel plated?) but some "shiny" hooks you can dull down without causing damage by putting in a d rop of vinegar overnight.
That said i think with live baits" such as maggots a bit of a glint of the hook does no harm as it merely looks like the trapped air most aquatic insects have.

If you are worried about the colour of the hooks e.g shinny then you can always use this product - www.enterprisetackle.co.uk/terminalhtm/hookskins.htmthread one on the hook and add your bait to it. The hook skin hide most of the hook except the point of the hook
