Noticed a comment about the price of flies.Dont any of you tie your own?
It isnt that difficult and a lot of the patterns that catch fish rather than anglers are really easy!Not only can your own tied flies be cheaper you can control the quality and choice of matirels,hooks etc totally. Some really deadly patterns are also just not easily avaiable.
The best way to learn is obviousley getting some one to show you but these days getting a good DVD or vidio is an excellent second best.
When you first start you will think your efforts are not as neat/good as the shop brought ones but dont worry the trout wont care! a few months in to tying your own you will still be over critical but when you actually compare you will see that yours have soon become a lot better than most cheap shop broughts.
Give it a go its great fun!
I dont tie "for the fun of it" anymore as my eyesight is very poor now.But I still sit down and replace any "specials" that I have run out of.
