Fisherman's Friend held their annual shop match for staff and customers at Maver Larford on Sunday.
Lots of the faces there I'd seen at Lodge during the summer opens and there were a few Lodge members there our illustrious senior Match secretary Norman and daughter Emma to named but two.
Conditions were rubbish with the wind strong throughout the match and with the water low after our dry summer it was like sitting on a beach I could have almost gone surfing.
Perhaps my time would have been better spent surfing but anyway pegged between to Phil's on my left peg 25 Big Phil from the Hazelwell Club (Brummies) and Phil Briscoe venue owner and Head of Maver tackle on peg 28. No one drew 27.
Needless to say I got battered by both they weighed close to 40lb me at best 20lb. Plan A and B went out the window as the wind progressively got worse.
Lesson learnt don't go to matches on venues you have never fished with that sort of seasoned veterans. Have said that I still managed to enjoy it.
Well done to Sid Taroni from Fisherman's Friend and a new member at Lodge for running the match and also well done to Steve Pierce for taking top honours with 150 odd pound.

Thanks for the support Carpy and Mr M .I'm crap at guessing weights but I bump into the chap who fished next to me and the new estimate on my weight is nearer to 30lb.
7 Bream at least 2 lb a piece 3 Carp 2 to 3lb each ,2 Tench 3lb to 4lb each and 6 Skimmers 4 to 6 oz.
But I would have still not won a bean.
Frank Emma did come and see me and she said she had caught 3 or 4 Bream. It nice to see her spreading her wings to different venues.
