thanks for the welcome and response lads. well andy, i have decided to concentrate my efforts to the arrow for a few years because like budgie, ilove this river. my main efforts will be in redditch and studley because i would like to unlock the (as far as im aware!) unknown potential of this stetch. other favorite areas are at arrow mill and wixford. asmentioned before i have caught some superb fish from this river and have observed some even better fish in clear water. i would love to hear about your experiences budgie, i bet the arrow is a completly different river to the one you used to fish as every year seems to change it in some way. i know andy is a fan of pike as we spoke once at the man made (about a year ago, we where discussing the carp potential of the lake), do you know there are some very good pike in the redditch arrow. have you caught any? anyway thanks again for the replies and sorry for the slow response am having to borow other peoples computers at the min.

When I used to fish the Arrow at Wixford my favourite bit was the weirpool by the Fish Inn.It had a depth of around 4' around 8' from the sill going down to nearly 6 ar the deepest.Last time I fished it (around late 90's Andrew?) it had silted up quite a bit and was a lot shallower.Even had a barbel (smallest Ive ever caught at around 10ozs) from it back when they were quite a rarity in both the Avon and Arrow.Far bank of the tail end of the pool, just above the road bridge there was a slight back eddy where a good cast with a lump of float fished cheese would garantee a chub or two. Below the bridge (same bank) was also good for chub and perch. Only had small jacks on trotted float fished lives then. I never did to well on the slower water above the weir but did once see an old boy "stret pegging" take a good 1lb+ roach.Only stretch Ive fished though Im afraid.
When Andrew gets back he will be able to tell you more about other stretchs. He had some good chub catchs from one.

I had a bash near the man made lake but I am far from experienced with this kind of fishing and it was very shallow. I too would love to find a stretch to 'ave a go on!

thanx again for feedback. funny you should mention wixford budgie as i went to have a look down there yesterday. needless to say there was a lot of water after our recent downpour and the beer garden at the fish inn had become part of the river. wixford remains a favourite of mine after a session there last year. my regular fishing pal had never caught a barble and fancied his chances in the weerpool, a short evening session was aranged and a huge piece of luncheon meat was cast to the far bank slack. his possitive approach payed off when he caught his first barble, one which will be hard to follow up as it weighed in at 11lb. if anyone can instruct me on how to post a picture on this site i would love to share a picture of this capture. i have heard stories of barble in the arrow around the man made where you mention mr matthew, but have not seen them, despite catching my only arrow barble a short walk upstream near the basketball court. again, i would love to share pictures of this capture as i rate this as one of my favourite angling memories because i had set out to catch this very fish. this river may be shalow mr matthew but this is why i love it as it allows you to observe and stalk its resident monsters! if you preffer to fish the deeper water there are some superb pegs at arrow mill oposite ragley hall avalible on a day ticket. ( just check there are no matches planned as club members can be moody!) there are suposed to be some good barble on this streach but i havent caught them, i did have a ten pound carp while targeting the barble as well as many chub between 3 and 5 pound. keep the feedback coming, as well as recomendations of stillwaters in redditch tokeep me busy through the closed season.

That sounds like an impressive catch!!
Seems like I will need to pop down again in June... it's so much closer to me than the other rivers and I would love to improve my river skills.

If I knew the contact numbers and the address of the following information I would pass it on to you. The Arrow Mill Hotel - I believe that you can obtain the ticket from the hotel?
