That's a tough one and it was a toss between three fish Carp, Tench and Pike Went for the Pike because i am catching the freshwater shark, and where it wonderful coloration and its camouflage pattern, both of which change to blend in with its surroundings, are unequalled among the freshwater species. In clear water the prominent grey-green colour, the zigzag markings across its back and the intricate pattern of blotches or spots along the flank are accentuated, and help to camouflage it as it lies in wait betwween reed stalks or tree stumps.

Great post Andrew. neally went for Pike after that post. But its Tench for me. The tench has suffered in many waters from the introduction of carp, which out-compete it for food. Tench may also be out-competed by bream in waters with low densities of submerged vegetation. This fish is popular with anglers because of the strong fight it offers and has inspired a number of anglers to specialise in its capture. The strength of the fight is made possible by its sturdy body and scoop-like fins. So vote for Tench

Carp for me   what a fish, spend years trying for a 30lb plus one. 26lb personal best. from Willows Farm. Carp and pike are easy to catch, but the big old wise ones not.

Well i went for Carp. but it could have been Barbel or Pike. I fish for Carp more than any other fish. I love big Pike but the winter period is best for them. And not best for me. Warm weather fisherman.

I would have to use that favourite answer of “my favourite fish is what ever I’m fishing for at the time!”<br> I love all fish, the different approaches needed for each and the different waters you find them in. Despite my love of Pike and the many wonderful years Catfish have given me if I could only fish for one species for the rest of my life it would have to be Thin Lipped Grey Mullet.
Why? Because they are the only fish that despite the years spent chasing them I havnt been able to catch consistently! One tide I can catch two or three of these ultra hard fighting fish and then go many days without a bite despite being able to see them swimming around! Why they are so difficult I don’t really know but it is the fact that they are so hard to catch that keeps me going back for more.

Chub, chub, chub and chub! But then I ws brought up on wagglers, sticks, maggots, casters and running water. ;D ;D ;D In second i'd put silver fish generally, whether it's big slabs at range on the feeder or gobios on the whip. I'm not too fond of carp but they appear to be the future of match fishing, so I suppose I will grow to like them. Stu
