Talking to Budgie today, and i see him with i old mitchell 300 setup on a rod and said he still loved the reel. I still use 3 old mitchell's one 300 and two matchs, and a abu 506 all over 25 years old. Still working like new. What do you think, will the shimarno reels last the same life., only time will tell.

Yes I vote for yes. Carpy, I do still have the Mitchell Reels especially in the 300As, 300Cs and the Blue Match Reels. These reels are over 31 years old and still going strong. But going back to the years when I first brought them they were the modern reels at the time. But sadly the reels are now retired to the fishing wardrobes in the house. There are times when the odd Mitchell reels will come out on a special occasion like when fishing down the River Test or the River Itchen on the Grayling bashing days! I do also have the Shimano reels, but in the 8010GT Baitrunners in my Specimen fishing these days as I have 5 for Piking and 3 for Carping. These reels will last a lifetime you treat them nicely! The only time I have anything wrong with the Shimano Baitrunner was when sometimes I bent a handle shaft by accident and they sent me a new one in a few days after I sent an email to them. But sadly the old era fishing tackle are long gone and new tackle are invented every year. In the old days we used to used silver foil as bite indicators and now we have electronic bite alarms. It does show the tackle have come a long way.

Your a tackle tart Andrew ;D Get the old mitchells out. Look at this for a bargain. cgi.ebay.co.uk/MITCHELL-MATCH-440_W0QQitemZ7233482046QQcategoryZ1494QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Nothing wrong in a bit of bread squeezed around the line for a bit indicator, or a top off a washing up liquid bootle. The art of fishing. all these gadgets make it all to simple for me. I'll stick to watching the feeder rod bend around, and hooking into the fish, not waiting for hours for a beep on the indicators. Give me a pole, float or feeder rod anyday.
