I was on the avon a couple of weeks ago trying my first dead bait session on the avon for Pike.
Anyway I was using 25lb braid, the river was up and my float and bait got pushed into a snag on what must have been only my third cast.
I pulled and pulled and basically the metal pin holding the handle onto the real snapped under a a bit of pressure I was not impressed at all. For the first time ever I was truly travelling light and didn't have an appropriate spare reel.
The reel was bought of someone on AN, brand new in the box, this was only the third time I'd used it. I'm peeved because the line on it and the spare spool cost me more than the reel but won't likely get transferred across to another reel - it took ages to get just the right amount of line on the reel.
I'm sure I could get a replacement part but then if it's only going to break again, what is the point...

I suspect I binned the box, the only box I ever kept was from an Abu I bought from new...

I will have a word with my mate who work at Tacklefix direct to see if there is a diagram for it.
Matthew is there any chance of a picture of the broken part/reel and I can show it to the mate of mine. We can work out what the part number is and I will pass it on to you!

Mathew you mentioned having trouble getting the right amount of braid on? I presume that you wanted to back it up to the spool lip with mono under the braid?
If so (and you have a spare spool) the easiest way is to put the length of braid on first, top up the reel to where you want it with mono.then wind the lot on to the spare spool! Dead easy.
If you havnt got a spare spool for the reel your using then you can still do it but have to mess around loading the line on to a couple of reels till you get it the "right way round" to put it back on the origonal spool how you want it.
A bit of extra winding yes but it takes all the guess work out of it.
