Lower Broadheath Fishery
Known locally as 'The Jam Factory' because it can be found down a track behind a former jam factory off the main Worcester to Tenbury road, Lower Broadheath Fishery is an example of how success breeds success.
The venue started life in 1975 as an old irrigation pool which was bought by arable farmer John Jordan who owns the land which overlooks the fishery.
Having bought what is now known as Old Pool, John found he was increasingly being asked by anglers if they could fish the water and when he realised its fame was spreading he decided to build a second pool to cater for the increased demand for angling.
As a result there are now six pools at the fishery which offers a delightful mix of both pleasure and match angling in waters which hold carp to 35lbs plus big bream and tench, chub to 5lbs, decent quality roach and perch fishing, crucian carp and rudd, and even a head of stillwater barbel.
However, because Lower Broadheath is a popular match water, it is often busy at weekends, although there is usually a good choice of available pegs mid-week when the venue is quieter.
As with many fisheries these days, neither pellets nor groundbait should be used and, because of the large head of quality carp in all the waters, anglers are not allowed to fish floating baits. However, unlike many fisheries keepnets can be used, although anglers are requested to return larger specimen fish to water immediately after unhooking.
How to get there...
Lower Broadheath Fishery is situated just off the main B4204 Worcester to Martley road behind the Elizabeth the Chef bakery. From Junction 7 of the M5 motorway take the A4440 signposted for Hereford, Malvern and Leominster (A44). At the first roundabout turn left and continue straight over the next four roundabouts following the signs for Leominster. At the fifth roundabout turn left and take the second right signposted Broadheath. Go straight across the first crossroads and at the main road turn right onto the B4204.
After half a mile before you reach Worcester you will see a complex on the right with signs for Elizabeth the Chef and Vandemoortele. Turn into this complex and continue straight ahead heading towards the rear of the bakers. At the reception for Elizabeth the Chef turn right and continue with the bakery on your right towards the trees at the end where you will see a sign for Phil O'Brien Services. Turn left here and continue through the five-bar gate and down the old track which leads to Sycamore Pool and a parking area. To reach the other pools, turn right at Sycamore Pool and follow the track which leads eventually to Oldbury Farm.
