There use to be 1 big lake before it was transformed to two lakes. But that was about 3 or 4 years ago but it is now clear to me that they have added an 3rd lake! So Deadred I believe the specimen lake is getting smaller and smaller.
Right here we go the - you have to be really good - even to be on your ultimate form!
There are at least 100 Peg and the main species are Carp, tench, skimmers, bream, roach, rudd. The water depth is around (if remembered correctly) up to 15ft in the middle. What I do know the a couple of years ago a match record was broke and still stand at 272learly this summer.
There 20 acres of prime angling and stocked with a variety of specimen sized fish including roach to 2lb, chub to 7lb, bream to 15lb, tench to 9lb and big perch and crucians. However, it's most famous for its huge carp with the fishery record standing at 38lb 8oz.
All methods are successful with the waggler pole and feeder accounting for many of the bream and small carp.
Boilies, particles and meat are the most successful baits for the specimen carp, and they also work well for the big bream and tench. I hate to tell you this that the other best baits are Worm, caster, sweetcorn and paste! But there have been some even better bait in the past using dead red maggots
.
The best method are using the Pole
;D and swimfeeder and also not to mention the in-line method feeder and dead red maggots technique
;D
Also in the past when I used to fish there that the best tactic I do know for the Match fishing was when fishing the Match Lake and Arena pools, the most successful tactics are pole fishing at anything between 2 metres and 13 metres.
The most successful baits are soft 4mm and 6mm pellets. Feed pellets must be purchased from the fishery which is available 7 days a week from the fishery shop. Hook pellets are your choice but sizes 4mm and 6mm are the most popular. Corn and meat also produce big bags and maggot works well on the new Arena pool. Also try the paste made up from the green swim stim – brilliant! ;D
The Match Lake is good with small in line method feeder and dead red maggots. Float size on both Arena and Match Lake 0.20 gram to 0.5 gram. Line size 0.12 or 14 dia with 14 or 16 barbless hooks. Expect weights of around 100-150lbs in the summer and 50-70lb in the winter – guaranteed!
For Ken on trying the match fishing on the specimen lake well that a different matter
;D
When fishing the specimen lake there are a number of tactics that work well. Feeder is always a banker. Medium ground bait feeder with a 3' tail. Size 14-16 hook is probably the best with red maggot, worm, caster and sweetcorn being the killer baits. Method in line feeder works very well with dead red maggots or sweet corn hook bait. Be prepared to hook carp to high 30lbs along with bream to 12lbs and tench to 8lbs.
When fishing the pole you need at least 1 gram floats because of the depth and pull of the lake. 0.14 dia main line with 0.12 hook length is most popular but when the big bream and carp move in, you need rigs with at least 0.18 or 20 main line direct.
Large quantities of carp are caught between 3lb and 5lbs at 3m on paste. Otherwise fish at between 10 and 13 m with chopped worm, maggot or corn. Whish fishing paste use up to a size 12 hook. In summer ball in at the start with plenty of corn and caster in your mix. Loose fed fishery pellets also work well with soft hookers. Also try the waggler to depth and shallow it can be a killing method! In simple terms feed heavy in the summer and lightly in the winter for best results.
But for Ken trying your hand on the specimen fishing (
Gosh, you got to be joking mate! ;D ;D)
PVA bags with plenty of free offerings. Spod heavily and put down a carpet of bait. Fish meal boilies work very well as do big pellet baits like halibut. Sweeter baits, fruit etc are most popular. Maize, corn and meat also produce good fish. Floating baits work well with dog biscuits taking plenty of fish if conditions are right.
Always make sure you have bait in the margins. There is always a big fish or two close…!!
Best of luck mate and I wish you well ;D
