Popped down to Abbey Park yesterday for a days fishing, I planned on a bit of roach bashing. I set up my carp rod just in case with a large cube of luncheon meat and a method feeder and concentrated on my pole. I had nothing for about a hour then a couple of bream of about a pound then a roach. then my carp rod went and I got me a leather carp at 13.5 pound(well I think it was a leather carp have a look at the pic). I have been in the summer and it does produce large bags of crucian and bream or carp if you go for them. All in all its a venue I would recommend.

Sounds like you had a good time Dave. Are the waters private or can you get day tickets to fish.

Hi Dace Yes you can get day tickets from the golf shop before you start fishing they are £7.
You do need a trolley cos its quite far to walk.
The best thing to do is drive to the main entrance get your ticket and then park on the bit of grass on the corner of hither green lane and the lake is on the right about 200 yards away.

Hi Budgie I'm not sure really I've only been in late spring summer time and we all had one after the other. When I went last week they didn't show at all so I presume they like the warmer weather, but I am no expert. I do know someone who works there so I will ask them to find out off the bayliff chappie (he seemed to know the pool quite well the last time I spoke to him) I'll let you know.

Subject to the date I'm up for this - midweek can be better for me. It'll be another new water for me!
If they are proper Crucians, and not F1 hybrids, then you had better wait until May when the water has warmed up a touch. However, if they are F1s they will feed all year.

Stu, I think if I can remember that they are proper Crucians but mind you that the last time I fish it was five years ago!

They probably are Crucians Andrew. Given that Buzzard didn't catch any and says that they show in the summer they are probably a pure, or relatively pure, strain of Crucian rather than the F1.
If any of you have been over to Larford recently, particularly the match pool, you will now what I mean about the F1s feeding all winter. Fantastic fishing, but it does get somewhat repetitive F1 after F1 after F1 after F1........
